Orca Week - Take 2

Each weekday, I’ll post a new sketch. After 24 hours I’ll total the number of likes that the sketch gets across all of my social media platforms (including Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, and Tumblr). At the end of the week, I’ll take the sketch that received the most likes in its first 24 hours and turn it into a digital painting! This is your chance to tell me what you’d like me to paint next! I’m also open for suggestions for daily doodle subjects, so let me know if there’s something you’d like to see so I can keep it in mind.

I hope you got the tag on my post, but just in case...I really want to be in this contest. I did it last night. So check out my blog to find the dragon there.

Received and posted to the contest page! Thank you so much for entering! :D

What do you use for your sculptures? Like say, your orcas and stuff. I really LOVE your work

Thanks! I do all of my sculpting in polymer clay. There are a whole bunch of different brands, but I prefer Sculpey :)

I hope I'm not really late on this because the mobile app is being annoying but I'd definitely be interested in the other breeds of dragon necklaces! Your work is amazing, btw!

I’m always working on new projects, I think I may get started on some other dragon species this week! I post all my Work in Progress stuff on Facebook, so be sure to check out my work there for the most up-to-date photos ;)

Your art is beautiful, some works as "Warrior" is hella photorealistic! I want to ask if you don't mind: how you paint water? I was on the sea many-many times, i watched on the water, on the waves, reflections, splashes and etc, but when I came home and trying to draw that I saw, all I get is a weird daub. :(

Sorry about the late reply! Just saw this message for some reason. I’ve really just done a LOT of trial and error. I “play” with different brushes and effects until I find one that works. When I do something super photo realistic like the “Warrior” painting, I always use a photo reference and attempt to copy what I see. I start with broad, basic colours, and refine one layer at a time. I make the first few layers very soft, with fuzzy brushes, and use harder brushes as I go. I almost draw water the way I draw fur, which sounds strange, but it’s all about long, randomly positioned strokes, like fur. Just be sure to practice, practice, practice. I hope something I’ve said is helpful!
